PARKFIELD AREA, CALIFORNIA, DIRECTIONS

  • Parkfield, actually in the southern part of Monterey County, is off the beaten
       in a particularly rural area where the USGS maintains earthquake experiments.
  • It is normally serviced by north San Luis Obispo County communities.
  • The most improved road leads north from Cholame from CA46 (17 miles),
       21 miles from Shandon, but 43 miles from Paso Robles' commercial services.
  • Most common are the roads, however, from San Miguel; River road to
       Cross Canyons Rd., onto Indian Valley Rd., onto Vineyard Canyon Rd.,
       onto Parkfield Coalinga Rd.; (24 miles) and 35 miles from Paso Robles.
  • Coalinga can be reached over a partially unimproved Parkfield Coalinga Rd.;
        the Parkfield Grade and CA198 (29 miles, in Fresno County).
  • To get to the Monterey Courts, etc., requires a trip of about 135 miles.
