POST 220 IS HELPING TO RAISE THE FLAG AT TEMPLETON CEMETERY
Our guest at the January 13th, 2010, Business Meeting was Sandy Cowell of the TSCD and representing the Templeton Cemetery District. Ms. Cowell expressed the need to replace the  American Flag Pole at the Columbarium that was broken off at the base during a recent storm, and the attendant financial requirements. Several alternatives were presented, mostly requiring the expenditure of approximately $1,000.00.

Also presented were the Cemetery's ideas about placement of the five military service flags at the cemetery, and their desire the cemetery would not to become a 'Military Cemetery.'

An invitation was extended for our officers to visit the site and attend the Cemetery District meeting on January 14th at the TCSD to possibly meet with Neal Hasch of the District's maintenance staff.

After Ms. Cowell's departure the discussion of the broken Flag Pole was continued, the options were explored and it was decided that fiberglass pole as a replacement would best serve the Legion's interest of quality and longevity. Consequently it was decided to provide the Cemetery District with an initial $1,000.00 to effect replacement, with the addition of minimal 'over-runs' in costs.

Lawrence Mora and Barry Trosper attended the Cemetery District's meeting whereupon Mr. Mora extended the $1,000.00 grant with the provisions decided upon at the Legion's Business Meeting. The methods of construction, replacement and lighting were discussed. (Item 2 on the District's agenda with Richard Dusi, William Sporleder, Sandy Cowell and Neal Hasch.)

Item 3 on the agenda was the placement of the five Military Flags. It was conveyed by the Legion Post 220 that it was only intended to fly all flags only on special holidays, i.e. July 4th, Memorial Day and Veterans Day. The only other intended usage would be a single flag representing a deceased's military service organization. A consensus was reached and five flush flag holders (provided by the Post) would be placed equi-distant on the outer planted ring of the Columbarium, the Legion would supply suitable (possibly telescoping) flag poles and flags for these events.
