E-Mail from Captain Alford, June 6, 2005.
Barry,
I made copies of the article for my 80th birthday celebration last March which my four daughters arranged in Albuquerque. The article is in French. Hopefully you can get it translated. You don't have to return it. I regret that I won't be able to make the reunion.
When I look back on my career in subs, SHARK WAS THE TOPS.
Best submarine wardroom and crew in the Atlantic in the early 60's. The Soviets never knew what they were up against. Remember we set the tactics in the 60's that the our attack subs are still using 45 years later. Please read this to the men at the reunion. I respect and am honored to have served in the same submarine with you all.

"Would you like proof that the spirit of atomic submariners is not the same as it is everywhere else? I have 94 men under my command and I've been with them for eight months. Well, I have only had to reprimand once. We were in port, one of my men, authorized to sleep at home, arrived a few minutes late. You can make the calculations; 94 men, eight months, one slight error."
We separated at the base of the gangway. I saw him get into his 1952 Cadillac, which he always drives. He is going back home and I'm sure that in an hour, with a cowboy hat on his head, he'll be having great fun lassoing his four daughters.

It has been our pleasure in preparing this Presentation for your enjoyment and edification.
Hopefully you will derive the same pleasure in accessing and reading.
